The New Scots Talent project strives to enhance awareness and empower individuals who identify as New Scots. Our goal is to bolster their skills, cultivate valuable experiences, foster personal development and instil confidence. This initiative is designed to facilitate their access to opportunities in employment, social enterprise, or further education.
Throughout the project, we have conducted basic IT skills workshops twice a week, with the objective of empowering individuals through the acquisition of these essential skills. Participants have noticed an increase in their productivity, as well as finding themselves more competitive in the job market, opening a wider range of career prospects. Internet safety was emphasised through online security and privacy, reducing participants’ vulnerability to cyber threats. We formed a close-knit community, collaborating and supporting each other throughout the learning journey.
We not only provided basic level IT workshops, but also were able to provide college-level ICT classes. These had the power to shape the future of participants, not just in terms of their technical knowledge but also in their academic and career opportunities, leadership potential, and contributions to society.
The English classes that we were able to provide had a far-reaching impact, from improving communication skills and academic success to fostering cultural understanding, career advancement, and personal growth.
The four main benefits that were found were:
Improved Communication Skills
Cultural Understanding
Confidence Building
Social Integration
